So simple, but I quite like the simplicity. I sort of wish that we could see the bottom bit of the fridge (the way we see the top and two sides). My eyes sort of get distracted and follow the two sides down of the page since there's no border (as at the top) to force you back into the centre. Hope this makes sense? Alex Gooding
I think you could go even tighter on your crop, just between where the shelves end and where the edge of the fridge begins, this could also solve the issue Alex brought up, since all the edges would be similarly smooth. Just tried it with a screen cap, its possible to crop to have all smooth sides, I'd go as far out as possible before hitting any fridge edge detail.
I agree with Alex about the borders. I, also, feel like that due to the size of the french fry container its losing its emphasis compared to the vast amount of fridge. I feel like the image than becomes more about the fridge and not the container. For me, this creates a lack of focus and my eye isn't really sure where to go. I like Tyler's suggestion of maybe trying to crop it in so we see more of the container.
Looking at this image, I feel that it's very heavy centre-wise. I understand that fridges are basically vertically and horizontally emphasized—it would be stupid to have a diagonal shelf in one—but I think that putting all that emphasis on the middle makes it a tad bit flat. I'm not sure if it would resolve the issue, but you can always try placing the carton in a different area of the shelf, or on a different shelf altogether. If it remained in the centre though, I'd recommend removing or trying to remove the shine of light from it on the left hand side of the fridge, it makes me want to look at it and my eye gets stuck there, or it goes wandering around looking for other areas that are lit like that. Alternately, placing a similar sort of shine on the side opposite it would balance things out.
I think a little adjustment to the crop would make this photo even better! Either pull out and show the entire edge of the fridge or pull in and not show any of the edge of the fridge. Maybe try both and see which you like better. Other than that I love the colours and the whole concept. Awesome.

Hi Rebecca
ReplyDeleteWhy is it in the fridge? The context is confusing to me.
