Joseph Hammond - Photo # 4 - High School
This is Joy! She's in first year film and I've been working on some of her film sets this year. She's done a great job as a director, she's extremly professional and a blast to work with. We went to the same high school together and I asked to shoot her as I remembered her from that time, as a dancer dancing on the school grounds.

High School Re Shoot - Jessica Benoit
I kinda switched my idea around a bit for this one. It still has to do with the same story as before but since my younger siblings are too far away to photograph, I used my older sister. She's been my best friend for as long as I can remember and after almost losing her in my grade 12 year, (the reason for the family emergency mentioned before) our relationship has become even more important to me. I also put in the other photos of a high school in a small town I visited recently. It reminded me of my hometown and the countless Friday nights my friends and I spent watching our high school football games. Anyways, I couldn't really decide which layout I like better so advice would be appreciated:) Thanks!
Paul Swanson - Novelty
I want to use this photograph as an allegory examining what we see novelty to be and how we construct our understanding of reality through its definition. Novelty can be defined as the quality of being new, original, and even unusual. So knowing this now, what constitutes a novelty? Is it the first time you encounter an emotion never felt before, see something new, or hear a song for the first time? Could every day be a novelty? We approach each day with a new vivacity, eager to learn and challenge ourselves; to grow. And like that unusual thing that we all have encountered, whatever it may be, do we not come to try and understand it, much like every day we reflect on what we have done? Reality, in its purest form, might be a novelty in and of itself.
Alison Irwin, Cosmos Redo
Cosmos Redo, first one is the moon with the result of me getting sick of trying to get it in focus so i swung my camera around... Second is the moon again in the trees focussed.
Let me know what you think, & terribly sorry for taking over the blog with all these posts...
Alison Irwin, Fast Food...Again
Fast Food Redo #3?
Original at the top with some editing then a different perspective (should i crop a bit?) let me know your thoughts.
Alison Irwin- Novelty Redo
Novelty is something original & unusual, & this van definitely caught my eye from the side of the rode. It was originally for my 4x5 assignment but do to complications i am not able to use it & when i went back to shoot it again, it was parked in the back of this lot so i wasn't able to get it. I took digital images of everything i did so i thought this would be perfect for novelty. Let me know what you think!
Also had this before, original then crop with different placing. let me know what you think.

I guess what I'm saying is movie stores are becoming a novelty... It started first for my town with MR. VIDEO, a privately owned video store that closed shortly after Blockbuster was implemented. But it obviously didn't last for long, closing only 4 or 5 years after opening. By the time our kids are around the concept of renting a real physical video will be completely lost and unfamiliar.
Thoughts/comments/improvements?

Meabh McGrory - Novelty
soo, i didn't get the chance to shoot what i wanted to shoot for my novelty shot, but i have decided to choose this photograph, because of the expression on the older mans (my great uncle Jack) face. Its almost as if he has passed the point of appreciation of the novelty of having a small needy baby. He looks confused with the innocence of the child. It is an interesting contrast between the fazes of either subjects lives.
BRE ELBOURN - FAST FOOD UPDATE
Heres an update on my fast food, I took Volpe's advice with the cows thrown in there, as well most people seemed to like the light grey background. I tried tacking them up on a bulletin board as well and shooting but I wasn't a fan of the outcome. Let me know if you guys think its better with or without the street address underneath :). Thanks

Joseph Hammond - Photo # 5- Novelty
This is a film still from a first year Ryerson film. The character shown is in deep contemplation inside a chapel. I based the composition off the infamous prayer scene from Shakespeare's Hamlet. King Claudius racked with guilt prays for forgiveness over the murder of his brother, Hamlets father, the original king. The Novelty of the photo comes from the young age of the actor and a conversation I had with another actor about a Production of Hamlet he had recently seen.
In that production the director had posed one question: What if Claudius was the same age as Hamlet? What a completely Novel Idea to re-Imagine Claudius as the kings younger brother! How different the story would have been to see this man grow up by Hamlets side, to think of them playing as children! Only to have him as a young man kill his older brother and marry Hamlets Mother! To think how the vast age differences would change the motivations of each character! It was such a fresh perspective, such a novel idea! I just had to use it for my Novelty shot. It was the perfect fit for me.

Fern Kachuck, High School Redo
Aaaaand this is my high school redo. I went in the other day and took a bunch of shots of the art room there, because its where I spent grades 10, 11 and 12. I ate lunch there every day for a year in grade 11... I hated everyone else. Its fine. The guy in the third photo from the right was my teacher for 3 years and I've cried to him numerous times and we still keep in touch and I go back just to visit him. He rocks.
Fern Kachuck, Family Reshoot
These are my reshoots for family. For those who don't know, its currently passover, aka I eat cardboard for 8 days. The first two nights we have seders, and we usually have about 30 people at dinner. One night for one side of the family, the other night for the other side. You'll notice my grandmother from the last photo. I tried to get a shot of the entire table the second night like in the left photo from the first night, but the table was really weird and I couldn't do it. Then I thought to focus on my grandmother, because realistically she's the rock of the family, most social and makes sure that we're always spending time together because family is really important to her because she lost so much.
Im just not sure which two i like better... comment away.
Katii Capern - Theme #5, Cosmos - Redo
Hey guys! I got a new idea for Cosmos and have a bunch of different images; here's one! What do you think?
Thanks,

Meabh McGrory - novelty
soo, i just wanted to put something up, but am planning to shoot and post my actual idea tomorrow (much more interesting than this one LOL)..
Amanda Woolley, Theme #2 - Family
So I did a redo of family. I'm posting three different picture here...let me know which one you like best and what I can change or improve on or any suggestions! Thanks!
^brother's band playing at The Silver Dollar.
^most people in my family have at least one tattoo and some are covered in them. This is my cousin Garrett, he's an MMA fighter.
^this is my aunt about to pose for a cute picture with her nephew, when his long curly hair got caught in her sunglasses. I thought it was funny.
Abby Klages - Novelty 3 - Theme 5
Trying a different idea than my previous one. This chair has been passed on to me by my great- grandmother who died last year, she died at 103 and for as long as anyone can remember she had this chair. To me, its new but in reality it is so old and unique.

Theme #3 HIGH SCHOOL UPDATE Alex G
So here's my updated high school. I honestly had no idea what to do for a reshoot, but I kept going back to the idea of intimidation. And somehow, this led to the confusion that I think most people experience in high school. It's an awkward time for just about everyone and all the new experiences and peer pressure, at least for me, made it very difficult to focus on the things that I needed to focus on (i.e. dong well). So, I've basically taken my previous upload of what high school's goal was for me, my focus...and turned it into confusion...making it difficult to focus on the thing that you should be focusing on....Feedback anyone?!
Amanda Woolley, Theme #3 - High School
So this is my high school re-do. Let me know what you think, what I should change, etc. Thanks!
-Amanda Woolley
Amber Hartin - Novelty
It's a picture of a polaroid of a polaroid camera.
The polaroid itself is the novelty. I will be handing in the polaroid itself, not a print of this, I think.
Amanda Woolley, Theme #5 - Novelty
So here is my novelty again I took the suggestions of pulling back and trying to make it not so centre. Let me know which you think is best and any other comments.. Thanks!

^off centered

Theme #2 FAMILY Update Alex G
Okay...so...After spending about 6 hours editing today. THis is my updated family. Same concept being a 'bajan' family. Unfortunately, the idea I wanted to dod didn't quite work out. But I'm rather happy with this. The blending and masking to the island's shape was an absolute bitch and isn't 100% perfect but I'm fairly content, and given that my hands are beginning to lose feeling from being on the laptop so long. I'll leave it at that. Feedback anyone?
