Lucy Lu - Theme 1: Fast Food

My take on fast food is depicting the moment after the "magic" of indulgence. Fast food, along with many other things, are a way of comfort and enjoyment that is only momentary, but ultimately hurts you more than it helps you. Here, people are shown to realize that hurt; feeling a sense of deception, and guilt. I'm not too sure which one I like more out of these two, each has their charm.
I also tried removing the person as the main subject, as seen below. Though, I feel this photo offers a different message, more direct about the harmful aspects of fast food. I'm gravitating towards the other concept, but I still like the aesthetics of this one. Anyway, comments and suggestions on all three photos would be greatly appreciated! Which one is your favourite? :)

UPDATE 02/28/12: Diptych? I like it :)

  1. i really like the concept! i think using the person as the main subject has more impact, the expressions and poses speak loads. if anything you can try making the top two a diptych? i think they work really nicely together, i'd hate to see one of them go.

  2. I really enjoy the first image ;) kidding! I think they both look amazing and I agree with Victoria in that it would probably have a greater impact if you turned them into a diptych. I think the body positions mimic each other and help create a circle in the middle. I, also, feel the placements of the soda cup in the first image helps lead your eye into the next image and mimics the shape of Locrin's arm so maybe positioning them just how they are here on the diptych would work extremely well.

  3. I wish I thought of this idea, It reminds me of a break up, like comfort food! I love it

I like the last photo, how you can't see all of the model (sorry locran and Jordynn)
but Id be cool to see a bit more of the model, maybe a nice balance between the two!

    the lighting is awesome
    love it!

  4. These are really interesting Lucy, they make you think and feel something different with each photo. The third one especially where it's only the arm & some hair has nice composition (it's definitely my favourite since there's more mystery). The lighting is somewhat natural too which isn't distracting from the subject, love it!

  5. These are fantastic!! Really love what you've done with this. I don't have any technical comments, although I agree with the idea of using a diptych. For some reason I can only see the first two photos, of Jordynn and Locrin. (How do I see the third? It only looks like an empty icon to me.)

  6. I really enjoy the last photo posted with the person mainly out of the photo. I would try that concept again but take the bracelets or elastics off her wrist. Maybe it is just me but I find them distracting, but I totally love the composition and idea of the last one!

  8. Using the person as the main subject is most definitely more effective in my opinion, the setting matches the concept perfectly which is awesome. The one thing the last one brings to offer is like Alycia said its more mysterious and it makes you think a little longer then the others would. Overall i really like this!

  9. Thank for all the comments :) I'm definitely going to try a diptych. The only thing I'm worried about for that is if it takes away from the isolation aspect of it if it were two people instead of one. I'll try it and see where it takes me.

  10. It would be great to see his elbow and the edge of the pillow. The concept is great and very understandable. A little bit more grotesque might do it some good. Is it bad that I am getting hungry looking at all these?

  11. Geo

I love the two shots, almost like they are a couple and in separate beds devouring fast food. I hope the food put some meat on their bones, look at those two! they are skinny! Would be cool to see them two against a black background.

  12. Definitely digging the diptych. Agreed with Geo about the couple thing which makes this idea even better. They go together really well and there's a lot of similarities that bring them together but enough differences in the two images that they stay interesting. Good choice, go diptychs!
