Bre Elbourn. Family.

FAMILY.
super late. what happens when none of you live together.

For my family shot I shot my mother and my sisters. My mom had my oldest sister pretty young, and has been remarried several times... SO we all have different dads. By making everything but us the same I hoped to focus your attention on what similarities and differences we all have between us. I guess I hoped to emphasize that despite being born half eachothers blood, we're still a family and our experiences growing up have shaped us to be similar even if its not physical.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks! :)

  1. I think this photo series is awesome & the idea of it is really intriguing! The simplicity and same-ness of everything (minus the people being different of course) is great . The only thing I might change is the crop, it's a little hard to see everyone (the details in their faces, since that's what I want to look at because everything else is pretty much the same) because they are so small in the frame compared to the rest of the scene, ( maybe try cropping the bottom part away just to see if it looks better or not )
otherwise I really really like it !

  2. Bre i absolutely love these, your message behind it is so wonderful. the only thing i would suggest is dim down the highlights through the door, they're a bit too blown out. then bring some light to the front to balance it out. other then that i love everything! great job :)

  4. Such an interesting concept! Good job! I agree with alison on the dimming the highlights. Also agree with katie on the bottom part being cropped might make the facial expressions and details be more noticed!

  5. I really like this Bre!! it took me a while to figure out what was going on with them all wearing the same thing and sitting in the same position. I think it creates a great effect of ambiguity while exaggerating differences. I agree with the highlights being blown out in the door though. But its great!!

  10. Thanks all for the feedback! Was thinking I'd keep the crop as is as it will be printed 11x14 and detail will no longer be a problem... I tried cropping it a couple times and i really wasn't a fan of the composition any more! Thanks!

  11. if those are your sisters, it is absolutely terrifying how alike you look!! the setting up and positioning must have been difficult at times to get it exact but definitely paid off!
