FAMILY - GRAEME WAHN

The theme inspired me to focus on what sort of things shape a family, and without a doubt the first and most prominent thing to establish a family is the classic family home. From there I explored the concept of the family home and remarked on how much of the time it spends empty and unoccupied. This is a study of the vacant family.

I'm not overly happy with this shot, but over the break I should be getting more opportunity to explore this topic further - so until then, you know what to do.

Appreciate any words you care to share.

  1. I really like the lightening in the shot. I would have pulled back just a tab because I wish I could see more or the chairs or if there was more of an interesting story for me to look at on the table. Love that cat. Can't wait to see you explore this further

  2. There's lightening? Jokes i know what you meant Jordynn. Anyway, I agree, maybe just try some different crops and perspectives or whatever. Lovely cat, and the crock pot. Crock pots instantly say family to me so nicely done.

  4. The mood is really well done here I think, I would maybe consider getting rid of the modem (?) in the window .
There is a blue shape under the table (maybe recycling bin) and I would photoshop that out, and the little photo just showing at the upper right corner is kind of distracting .
I think the lighting and colours are great and the cat is in the perfect position for this shot !

  6. Beautiful photograph, Graeme. The light is great and there is definitely a good mood going on here with the cat and the vacant family. Only things I'd say that would make this photo stronger would be 1. clean up the stuff kristi mentioned, like the modem, recycling bin, plugs and maybe some of the unrecognizable stuff on the table. 2. introduce more of a narrative. Like personally I'd love to see something of an aftermath of what the family left behind on the table, evidence of someone having been there previously, a bit of a story that leaves us wondering about the people who left it behind. Just a thought.
