Meabh Mc Grory- Theme 2- Family

So, here it is.. (i may change it/ add another one soon, i just don't have the people i want in the photo at my finger tips right now) .. The first thing that comes to mind when i think of the word 'family' is my dad. He passed away about 4 years ago, and i was extremely close with him, so i have decided to dedicate my family themed photograph to him, Although he is not here, he will ALWAYS be my family, and had... has a massive influence on my decisions as well as my photography.. he was a great photographer!... anywhooooo .. hope you like it! comment please!

  1. Meabh, I'm not sure if that was 'his' chair, if you know what I mean, but there is something about the characterization of this that makes it so striking. Although there seems to be a lot of mid-tone grey, I think the idea and the emotion behind it are really well represented.

  2. I really love your idea with this, & how you represented him is like how his routine would've been each day... as if he sat in that chair to put his socks & shoes on. The only thing i would say is that the chair is not centred in the photo & i think it would be more effective if it was. Try shooting from a bit of a higher angle also to show what's on the chair (kinda loose the suspenders in the chair). But overall great photo, really love this!

  3. Yeah I would have loved to see a direct over head of everything neatly organized (his shirts shoes etc) I find that the chair over power your objects becuase eveything else in the photo is sooo much smaller. Maybe try the edge of a bed or a dresser drawer? If you have any of his camera stuff? like his camera or a photo he held dear or somehting maybe try adding those? definately try to fix the size thing though by maybe changing the angle. I love this though thats for sharing with everyone :)

  4. I think maybe just exploring with some different angles/perspective on this shot (as was said above) and the placement of the objects could make it a bit stronger. Maybe even bringing it back more to give that sense of emptiness/vacancy a stronger kick. Looking good so far. - Amber

  5. I like the initial feeling this image gives off, very strong . I think it may be better if it was centered & I would try to get rid of the shadow on one side and have more even lighting because I find the shadow on the left to be very distracting & lastly I would shoot from a higher angle like someone mentioned above I think.
I really like the black and white and mood it gives off .

  6. Good idea, Meabh. I agree with what some others are saying about exploring different angles and compositions (although I personally like that its not centred), and also maybe having more of a variety of differently sized objects. maybe add something like a side table to the composition? but at the same time I like the simplicity of it and you wouldn't want it to be too cluttered.... Yeah and perhaps trying some different lighting to soften that harsh shadow. I'd personally love to see this shot with natural morning window light, and in colour because I'd love to see the colour of the fabric in the chair- but thats just me.
